Marketing / Promoting your music on the internet.

In a previous article I discussed how to get your music into the online stores such as iTunes, Amazon and Rhapsody with practically no effort at all. In this article, I’ll give you some tips on how to get your music discovered online, at no cost to you!
Marketing in iTunes:
The first logical step is marketing your music on iTunes itself, and the best way to do this, that I have found so far, is to create your own mix on iTunes. If you’ve noticed while buying music, fans have created compilations of music and made them available for purchase, these fans don’t make money off of it, but it’s a great way of putting their favorite things out there.. this ability can work to your advantage!
What you do is make a play list in iTunes that matches your genre, try to think of the most popular artists that fit … (you have to have their songs in your library)… Add them to the playlist… don’t make the playlist too huge or few people will buy it! and try to mix up the artists to maximize the possibility that someone will find it while searching.
The big trick here, is to add one or two of your own tracks into this playlist, that way if someone buys the collection, your music will be purchased along with it! Publish your playlist to iTunes and sit back … if you picked some popular artists and put together a decent iMix, you’ll have some guaranteed sales..
Internet Marketing, for free:
There are sites out there that are music oriented, and would love to host your music for free just to get more people visiting their site… some of those sites will even pay you royalties based on how many listens you get .. I seriously recommend the following sites..
You cannot go wrong here, this is one of the largest sites out there, they offer you the ability to buy guaranteed listens to promote your work, or you can just submit it for free and hope you are discovered.
This site is a lot of fun, you create your profile and submit your music .. if you do well, you gain points as people bump you up, the more points you get, the more music you can submit and the higher you rank in the listings.
This site is also pretty cool, you can put your music up and make it available at no cost, for a certain amount of space.. otherwise, you can buy additional space and get a premium account.
This is a no brainer, myspace allows you to create a band account and upload up to 6 songs .. this is a GREAT way to get your music out there for no cost … furthermore, myspace has integrated with an online store so you can sell your music directly from myspace…. at no cost to you! (aside from them taking a percentage) .. what are you waiting for? get on it!
