First of all, Happy Easter …

One of the things I decided to do today, since Easter is kind of a non-event around here, is that I was going to take myself out on a date, and what better way to celebrate Zombie Jeebus day than to watch a horror movie?

I decided to check out The Haunting in Connecticut .. it was kind of nice because being that this is a Holiday, I pretty much had the entire movie theater to myself .. which helped make it just a little bit creepier at least.

The bottom line is that I would recommend the movie, I jumped at least once .. and it did a great job of maintaining an eerie feel ..

HOWEVER ..

Being who I am, I had to come home and read up on it and I can safely say that “Based on True Events” is extremely misleading .. The real story isn’t nearly what it seems, in fact there’s no real evidence that a haunting of any sort happened there.. the evidence leans more towards a family trying to make some money.

The Author of the book based on the family’s story believed it was about to write some interesting non-fiction, but as he interviewed the family separately, he noted:

“As I gathered all the necessary information for the book, I found that the accounts of the individual Snedekers didn’t quite mesh. They just couldn’t keep their stories straight.”

In addition, Paranormal Investigator Joe Nickell investigated the Snedeker house and interviewed the surrounding neighbors, only to find out that the landlady, upstairs neighbors, and next door neighbors, had seen no paranormal events, and that various experiences that the Snedekers had been having were all mundane, such as a power outage, which they thought was caused by demons, turned out to be caused by a limb falling on a powerline.

Ps. That’s right, upstairs neighbor even disputes the claims of the family .. odd, didn’t see an upstairs neighbor in the movie ;)

Bottom line .. the movie was great, just don’t walk out thinking much about it being true on any level.
